Pioneered right here
in New Zealand by Oceania, our Delay Speaker
Systems work well for Family Concerts and any situation where
excellent sound quality and even coverage to the entire audience
is a pre-requisite.
The usual situation at rock concerts for example,
is that the people at the front get deafened in an attempt to
get it loud enough for the audience at the back. Our Delay
Speaker Systems completely eliminate this problem. The
picture to the right, shows the vast Westpac Stadium in Wellington
prior to the Robbie Williams Concert in 2003. Rows
of black T12
speakers can be clearly seen on the ground.
Oceania T12 Delay Systems have been used extensively
throughout New Zealand by us over the past 7 years. The
system evolved at a time when large outdoor concerts, in particular
classical, were becoming increasingly more popular in Auckland.
Originally, we had developed the T12 enclosure specifically
for theatre, as it combined excellent audio quality with a compact
size. Now we suspend the speakers from the top of 4m steel poles attached
to 1200mm x 1200mm plywood baseboard, this elevates them sufficiently
to reduce potential sightline problems and allows good propagation
before reaching the audience. The boxes are spaced between
15 - 20m apart, the interval depending on the venue and act. They
are usually powered by Oceania
Biamp racks, these containing 8 biamp channels, with each capable
of delivering 1100 watts into 2 ohms. Stand Back!
Depending on the size of the venue, these small but highly efficient
speaker boxes are placed on their poles and arranged in rings out from the main Front
of House (FOH) system. See this diagram - (or thumbnail below, bottom row). Each ring is delayed electronically
to exactly match the time sound waves take to arrive from the main FOH system
- sound moves in air at 700 odd miles per hour, so this delay is actually not that long!
Our system has been used successfully at
large outdoor Concerts with Pavarotti, at Christmas in the Park, the SkyCity Starlight Symphony, at Carols in the Cake Tin 2004, the NBR Stadium Spectacular, and with Meatloaf, Robbie Williams, Ricky Martin, The
Bee Gees, and Neil Diamond, to name just a few! The system provides excellent sound quality and even coverage
to virtually the entire audience. It is visually unobtrusive
and does very little damage to sight lines. Although reasonably
elaborate the system has been refined to the point where 50 T12
cabinets can be set up on their four metre high poles and bases,
cabled and ready to go in four hours, with a crew of four ...
