the background ...
Late in 2001 we purchased three of the new Mackie
MDR 24/96 24 track hard disc based digital multi track recorders.
These units have subsequently been used to record Auckland's annual "Christmas
in the Park" live concert, the multi track sound is mixed down overnight for use in the 2-hour TV3 Special broadcast the
following evening.

The Mackies were also used for the full audio recording of
the Russell
Watson outdoor Concert in the Auckland Domain in February 2002.
This free Concert was primarily staged by Decca
Records of London, for the production of a TV Special and
DVD, which is currently available in most NZ CD shops. (Have a
listen) The entire Audio recording was provided by Oceania and
mixed in New York at Rightway Studios by Josh Abbey. As this massive
event was a 'one off' live event having only the one rehearsal,
reliability was obviously paramount. No chance of a re-shoot on
this one! Check the interesting photos (at right) of our 'Recording
World' – five Mackie 24 track recorders and five
48 channel mixing consoles all jammed into one truck!
Other projects with the Mackies since then have been the recording
of the large outdoor Classical Spectacular at the WestpacTrust
Stadium in Wellington with the NZSO, numerous Soloists including in 2002
Dame Melvina, Choirs, Brass Bands, sheep, cows and four "dancing"
diggers!
The Television Special for the 2002 Concert, broadcast in early August was seen and heard by record audiences.
The final outdoor project for summer 2002 was to record the Christchurch
Composer and Performer, Carlin, at an outdoor Concert with the
Christchurch Symphony and Hayley Westenra. Malcolm Wellsford supervised
the recording in a Queenstown field beside Lake Wakatipu and later
mixed the Project in Protools for yet another TV Special.
The above Events have all been ambitious and technically challenging
to varying degrees. We have been encouraged by the reliability
of the "package" we have been able to offer our Clients
and believe the results have set new standards in Live recording
in New Zealand. For these larger Events, the package we have evolved
includes the Mackie Recorders, Midas mixing consoles, 60 channels
of on-stage studio quality mic preamps along with all the ancillary
equipment and cabling required to interface the Recording world
to the Live Event, reliably and without unwanted noise.
We now hope to interest other Clients who may require various
scaled down versions of the above Systems. Having three recorders
means we can offer smaller, complete recording/mixdown
packages at very competitive rates for:
1 – Television and Film Productions with or without a musical content that
requires multiple tracks of 96k recordings.
2 – Recording Studios requiring more tracks for larger Projects.
3 – Location recordings of virtually any live Event.
4 – Smaller, cost effective "Demo" type of recordings for Bands
that could be done virtually anywhere.
5 – School opportunities include
recording local talent or as an educational hands-on tool for student learning.
6 – Church groups wishing to offer recordings of their musical content,
even commercially.
The real value on offer here is the supply of Broadcast
quality, complete
recording systems of various sizes and complexities, at affordable
daily or weekly rates. The suitably experienced human being required
to deliver, setup and if required, operate these Systems can also
be arranged for you.
Please feel free to contact Greg Peacocke for quotes
